The Warren is Hay's easy escape to the river: a riverside meadow and shingle edge on the Wye, reached by a short walk from the town centre. On a warm day it is where locals picnic, paddle, and sit out under the trees.
It is not a formal sight, which is exactly why it belongs here. After the bookshops and castle, this is where Hay opens into the border landscape.
