Built in the twelfth century and radically remodelled in Tudor style by Sir John Perrot, Laugharne Castle is a striking ruin above the Taf estuary. Dylan Thomas called it "the castle brown as owls" and used a converted summerhouse in its grounds as an early writing retreat. The atmospheric ruins are managed by Cadw and open to visitors.
