Shire Hall

Shire Hall anchors Agincourt Square with an unexpectedly grand provincial-Baroque facade. It was built in the 1720s as the county court and assembly rooms, and later became tied to the Chartist trials after the Newport Rising.

The museum is being redeveloped, with closure expected through 2026, but the building and square still repay a stop while walking between Monnow Bridge and the castle.
