Kenfig National Nature Reserve protects a rich dune system, freshwater pool, grassland, scrub, and woodland just inland from the coast near Porthcawl. It is one of the better nature stops in the area, especially for walkers, birdwatchers, and visitors interested in coastal habitats.
The reserve is best experienced slowly, following sand paths through the dunes or linking a walk toward the beach. It is exposed in rough weather, but on a clear day it gives Porthcawl a wilder counterpoint to the resort seafront.
