Portmeirion Village is the reason most people come: a compact stage set of domes, arches, loggias, bright walls, and borrowed architectural fragments overlooking the estuary. It is not an old Mediterranean village, and it never pretends to be. The fun is in the artifice.
Walk it as a designed landscape rather than as a normal town. The shifting views, sudden colour, and careful framing are the point, and the place works best when you stop looking for authenticity and enjoy the intelligence of the illusion.
