Portmeirion is not really Porthmadog, but it is close enough that many travellers treat the two as one day. The village was designed by Clough Williams-Ellis as a playful Italianate composition of terraces, towers, colour, and sea views.
It can feel theatrical and controlled, but that is the point. Go for the architecture and the oddness, then walk back toward the coast if the weather is kind.
