The Wales Coast Path gives Porthmadog its easiest self-guided outing. From the harbour area you can work west toward Borth-y-Gest and the beaches, or connect the day with Portmeirion and Black Rock Sands.
The route is less dramatic than the mountain paths inland, but the estuary, sand, and slate-town backdrop make it a good counterweight to a railway day.
