The Old Station is a former stop on the Wye Valley Railway, now used as a countryside visitor site with a cafe, picnic space, old railway features, and short riverside walks. It is a gentle counterpoint to the abbey rather than a blockbuster.
The station also explains why rail travel never quite solved Tintern: it sits about a mile from the village centre. Today that distance is an advantage, giving walkers an easy route into the quieter side of the valley.
