Montgomery Canal

The Montgomery Canal passes through Welshpool at a quieter pace than the roads around it. Restoration is still ongoing along the wider canal, but the town stretch gives you towpath walking, narrowboat history, and a calmer way to move between the centre and the old wharf.

It is best treated as part of the day rather than a stand-alone sight: walk a section after Powysland Museum, look at the old canal-side buildings, and use it to catch Welshpool in its softer moments.
