Belize Zoo

Belizean wildlife rescue zoo on the road between Belmopan and Belize City.

Belize Zoo is one of the easiest places in the country to see native wildlife responsibly and at close range. Jaguars, tapirs, toucans, harpy eagles, and other Belizean species are housed in a forested setting that grew from rescue and education work rather than a conventional menagerie.

From Belmopan it makes a simple half-day trip, especially for families or travelers who will not have time for long jungle excursions. The value is not only seeing animals, but learning what lives in Belize's forests before you head into reserves where sightings are far less predictable.
