Eating Out

Punta Gorda has a small range of restaurants catering mostly to travellers passing through on their way to Guatemala. The town has a strong Garifuna influence, and Garifuna dishes — hudut (a fish and coconut milk stew served with mashed plantain), serre (seafood with cassava), and fresh ceviche — are worth seeking out. The Saturday market is the best place for fresh fruit, tamales, and local snacks.

The Emery Restaurant on Front Street is the longest-running option in town, serving Belizean standards — stewed chicken, rice and beans, fresh fish — at local prices.
