Mahoe Bay

A protected horseshoe cove on the east coast, calm and good for families

Mahoe Bay is a small, almost-enclosed cove on the east coast of Virgin Gorda, about a mile north of Savannah Bay. The bay is essentially a horseshoe of low rock with a perfect white-sand beach inside, sheltered from the wind and the swell. The water inside the cove is shallow and consistently calm — one of the few BVI beaches where small children can swim without much supervision.

The bay is the beach of the Mango Bay Resort, but it is open to the public, with public access via a footpath from the parking area at the top of the cove. There is no admission charge. The southern end has good snorkelling around the rocks at the entrance to the cove.

Bring water and a packed lunch — the resort restaurant is open to non-residents but is not always staffed. The bay is a 10-minute drive north from Spanish Town along the east-coast road.
