The Cardston Alberta Temple dominates the town from a rise near the centre, its pale stone and Prairie School-influenced massing very different from the spires many visitors expect from Latter-day Saint temples. Completed in the early 20th century, it is a National Historic Site of Canada and a key marker of Cardston's Mormon settlement history.
Non-members cannot enter the working temple, but the exterior and grounds are worth seeing, and the seasonal visitor centre explains the building's history and construction. It is best approached as architecture and local history, not as a conventional church tour.
