Crowsnest Pass sits on Highway 3, the Crowsnest Highway, close to the British Columbia border. It is about an hour from Waterton Lakes National Park, roughly two and a half hours from Calgary in good conditions, and a natural stop between southern Alberta and the Kootenays.
A car is the practical way to visit. The communities and historic sites are spread along the highway, and some stops need short side roads.
