Leitch Collieries

Ruins of an ambitious early coal operation, now an open-air historic site.

Leitch Collieries was built in 1907 as one of the most impressive coal operations in the Crowsnest Pass. It lasted only a few years, but the stone and concrete ruins still suggest the scale of its ambition.

The site is open and easy to fold into a pass drive. It pairs well with Bellevue Mine: one shows the underground work, the other the surface machinery and business dreams around it.
