Sulphur Gates is the easiest spectacular stop near Grande Cache: a short walk from the day-use area to viewpoints over the Smoky and Sulphur rivers. The canyon walls and river confluence make the town's mountain setting feel immediate.
It is also a staging area for trips into Willmore Wilderness Park. Even if you are not heading into the backcountry, the overlook is worth the detour from Highway 40.
