Grande Cache

Alberta Rockies hamlet with canyon viewpoints, wilderness trails, and dinosaur tracks.

Grande Cache sits on the eastern edge of the Alberta Rockies, between Hinton and Grande Prairie, with mountain ridges on the horizon and big wilderness just outside town. It began as a resource town, but it is the landscape that makes it worth a traveller's spare day.

Sulphur Gates is the quick win: a short walk to cliffs above the Smoky and Sulphur river confluence. Willmore Wilderness Park is the larger reason people come, with trails, horse routes, and a no-motorized-vehicles backcountry on the edge of the Rockies.

The town has smaller anchors too, including Labyrinth Park and fossil history linked to nearby dinosaur tracksites. Grande Cache is not Banff, and that helps: it feels rougher, quieter, and much more northern.
