Getting Around

The town of Jasper is compact and walkable. The main strip on Connaught Drive has most of the restaurants, shops, and services within a few minutes on foot of the train station.

A car is essential for exploring the park beyond town. The major sights — Maligne Lake, the Athabasca Glacier, Mount Edith Cavell, Miette Hot Springs — are spread across a large area with no public transport connections. Car rentals are available in town. Cycling is popular on some of the nearby routes like Pyramid Lake Road, but the park's highway distances make a car the only practical option for the main attractions.

In winter, some roads close entirely, including the Cavell Road to Mount Edith Cavell. Check Parks Canada's road conditions before heading out.
