Getting There

Medicine Hat sits on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), roughly halfway between Calgary (290 km west) and Regina (430 km east). The drive from Calgary is around three hours on good prairie road; from Regina, four to four and a half.

By rail, Via Rail's Canadian stops at the historic CPR station three times a week in each direction — a way to arrive that fits the city's CPR-era character, though the schedule is inconvenient and the trip is long.

The local Medicine Hat Airport (YXH) has limited scheduled service; most fly-in visitors come via Calgary or Lethbridge. There is no inter-city bus service of note since the closure of Greyhound's western Canadian routes.
