Wood Buffalo National Park

Canada's largest park with free-roaming bison herds

The largest national park in Canada — bigger than Switzerland — Wood Buffalo straddles the Alberta-Northwest Territories border and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It shelters the world's largest free-roaming bison herd and the only natural nesting ground of the whooping crane. Getting here takes serious effort, but few places on earth feel this wild.
