Guest Ranches

The hills around 100 Mile House have been cattle country since the 19th century, and several working ranches now take guests — an experience that has become harder to find as ranch tourism consolidates elsewhere. A guest ranch stay here typically involves horseback riding through open range and pine forests, trail rides to backcountry lakes, and accommodation in log cabins with genuine character.

The Cariboo style is relaxed and unpretentious — these are working ranches that happen to take visitors, not themed resorts. The ranching season means spring and summer are the most active times; autumn riding in the fall colours is particularly good. A number of ranches in the area have operated for generations and know the landscape well. Ask at the visitor centre in town for current operators; the roster shifts over time.
