Gur Sikh Temple

The Gur Sikh Temple is Abbotsford's most important travel sight: a modest wooden gurdwara built in 1911 by Sikh settlers who worked in the Fraser Valley's mills and farms. Parks Canada recognises it as a National Historic Site, and it is often described as the oldest surviving Sikh temple in North America.

The building blends frontier commercial architecture with Sikh religious use, which makes it more interesting than its plain exterior first suggests. Go respectfully, dress modestly, and allow time for the small heritage displays on Sikh migration, labour, faith, and community life in early British Columbia.
