Burnaby Art Gallery

The Burnaby Art Gallery occupies Ceperley House, a handsome 1909 Arts and Crafts heritage home set on a rise above Deer Lake Park. The gallery focuses on works on paper — drawings, prints, photographs, and artists' books — and has a strong collection of British Columbia artists alongside national and international contemporary work.

The setting is as much of the appeal as the art. The house overlooks the lake, and the surrounding park is one of Burnaby's nicest green spaces. Plan a combined visit: the gallery, a walk around Deer Lake, and lunch or a coffee at the park's cafe. Free admission on the first Thursday of each month.

A story
The gallery is housed in Ceperley House, a 1909 Arts and Crafts mansion built for an early Vancouver businessman. When the city of Burnaby acquired it in the 1960s, restoring it as an art gallery was the obvious choice — the building's period rooms made natural exhibition spaces, and the location overlooking Deer Lake Park was too good to spoil with a purpose-built structure.
