C. W. Parker Carousel

A beautifully restored 1912 fairground carousel in Deer Lake Park, the C. W. Parker Carousel is one of the finest surviving examples of the classic North American carved-wood merry-go-round. The horses, chariots, and decorative panels were painstakingly restored to their original colours and are genuinely beautiful close-up — far more elaborate than modern fairground rides.

The carousel operates in the park seasonally on summer weekends. It's a short walk from the Burnaby Art Gallery, making it an easy combined visit. Even when not operating, the carousel building can usually be viewed from outside.

A story
This carousel was built by the C. W. Parker Company of Leavenworth, Kansas around 1912 and travelled across North America as a fairground ride before being acquired by Burnaby in 1986. It was one of Parker's standard designs, but the restoration — which took several years and involved repainting the horses in their original colours — turned it into one of the finest restored antique carousels in North America.
