Brilliant Suspension Bridge

A restored 1913 Doukhobor suspension bridge over the Kootenay River.

The Brilliant Suspension Bridge was built by the Doukhobor community in 1913 to connect settlements on both sides of the Kootenay River. It later fell out of use, was restored, and is now a pedestrian bridge and National Historic Site.

The bridge is worth the short detour north of town if you like industrial heritage or river views. It is not a long visit, but the concrete towers, narrow deck, and setting above the Kootenay make the Doukhobor story feel physical rather than abstract.
