The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park occupies nine acres of waterfront at Comox — ten minutes from Courtenay — and is one of the most pleasant green spaces in the Comox Valley. The property was the private estate of Robert Filberg, a lumber executive, who built a Scandinavian-influenced lodge in 1929 and developed the grounds over decades. It was bequeathed to the municipality on his death and is now a public park.
The grounds are informal and beautifully planted, with a mix of ornamental gardens, old-growth Douglas firs, and lawns that run down to the waterfront. Views across Comox Harbour to the Beaufort Range are excellent. The lodge itself is used for events and runs guided tours in summer.
In August the park hosts the Filberg Festival, one of the better craft fairs on Vancouver Island, with local artisans, food vendors, and live music in the grounds. Outside of event weekends the park is a quiet place for a picnic or a walk along the foreshore.
