Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area protects a broad Kootenay River wetland west of town. It is the place that makes Creston more than a highway stop: marshes, open water, cottonwoods, boardwalks, dyke trails, and viewing towers spread across a landscape used by migratory birds and other wildlife.
The Corn Creek Marsh entrance is the easiest place to start. Bring binoculars if you have them, and allow time to walk rather than just look from the parking area. Spring and autumn migrations are best, but the valley is rewarding in any quiet weather.
