Boyle Point Provincial Park

Boyle Point Provincial Park protects the southern tip of Denman Island and offers some of the best wildlife watching on the island. The trail to the lighthouse viewpoint is about 2.5 kilometres return through mixed forest and takes roughly 45 minutes. From the bluff at the end, the views across Lambert Channel to Hornby Island and the mountains beyond are spectacular.

Bald eagles nest in the tall firs near the point and are reliably visible year-round. In spring, grey whales pass through the channel on their annual migration north. Sea lions haul out on the rocks visible below. The park is small and quiet; it sees a fraction of the traffic of Fillongley and is the better choice for genuine solitude.

A story
At the tip of Boyle Point, a lighthouse has marked the junction of Lambert Channel and Baynes Sound since 1905. The lighthouse keeper's dwelling was removed decades ago and the light is now automated, but the stone foundation and the light itself remain. The channel below is a major migration corridor for grey whales in spring, and the point is one of the better spots on the island for whale watching without a boat.
