The agricultural land surrounding Langley City and Township supports a cluster of small wineries and farm-gate operations, taking advantage of the Fraser Valley's mild climate and fertile soil. Most are concentrated in the area south of the Trans-Canada Highway around 200th Street and toward Aldergrove. The wineries here tend to produce cooler-climate varieties — Pinot Gris, Ortega, and Bacchus — alongside fruit wines made from local blueberries and cranberries.
Several estates combine wine tasting with farm produce sales and U-pick operations, making for a pleasant afternoon circuit if you have a car. The blueberry farms in particular are spectacular in late July and August, and many sell directly at the farm. The drive through the farmland itself — past market gardens, horse properties, and hedgerows — is a good antidote to the urban sprawl of the Highway 1 corridor.
