Britannia Mine Museum is the big indoor-outdoor anchor on this stretch of Howe Sound. The Britannia mine operated for 70 years and was once one of the largest copper producers in the world. The surviving concentrator building, clinging to the slope above the highway, is impossible to miss.
The standard visit includes exhibits on mining and geology plus an underground train tour into an old tunnel. It is family-friendly without being empty entertainment; the best parts explain how hard and noisy the work was, and why mining shaped these small coastal communities so deeply.
