Getting Around

Nanaimo is a car-friendly city and most visitors arrive with their own vehicle, which makes it easy to reach attractions spread around the area. The city centre and waterfront are walkable. Regional Transit operates bus routes connecting the main areas of the city, but coverage is limited outside the core.

The Newcastle Island ferry departs from Maffeo Sutton Park in the harbour; the crossing takes a few minutes. A car is necessary to reach WildPlay and the Morden Mine Tipple. Cycling is possible along the waterfront; rentals are available near the harbour.
