Harbourfront Walkway

The Harbourfront Promenade runs along the edge of Nanaimo Harbour from the ferry terminal past float plane docks, marinas, and waterfront parks. It is the social spine of the city, and a walk along it at any time of day gives a good sense of why Nanaimo is growing in appeal. Seaplanes buzz overhead on their runs to Vancouver and the Gulf Islands; float planes and kayaks share the water with sailboats.

The walkway connects several parks and public spaces, including Maffeo Sutton Park where the Newcastle Island ferry departs. The whole route from the terminal to the south end of the promenade is flat and easily walkable in under an hour. The best views of the harbour and the coastal mountains beyond are in the evening light.
