Mr. PG

Mr. PG is a 26-foot-tall fibreglass logger figure that stands at the junction of the two main highways through the city — the point where most travellers first encounter Prince George. Originally built in 1960 as a promotional mascot for the local forest industry, he has outlasted the unironic era of roadside logging mascots to become a beloved civic oddity.

He's at the south end of the city, near the CN Centre arena, and visible from the highway. Stopping for the photo is optional but recommended — Mr. PG is the kind of thing that improves a road trip in retrospect.

A story
Mr. PG has stood at the junction of Highways 97 and 16 since 1960, originally built as a promotional mascot for the forest industry. His head is five feet in diameter. He has been painted, repainted, repaired, and occasionally vandalized over six decades — and has become a genuine local icon in the way that only slightly absurd civic symbols can.
