These hillside gardens began as part of a federal fruit-tree research station in 1916. The plantings are modest rather than grand, but the setting above Trout Creek Canyon is lovely, especially in spring and early summer.
Come for a slow walk, a picnic, and views toward the trestle. The garden is a good low-key stop if the heat makes a longer hike unattractive.
