By air. Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat (YXT) sits twelve kilometres south of town off Highway 37. Air Canada and WestJet both fly to Vancouver several times a day; Central Mountain Air links to Smithers and other regional airports. The Kitimat LNG project keeps the airport busier than its catchment alone would suggest.
By rail. VIA Rail's Skeena service runs between Jasper and Prince Rupert three times a week, with a station stop in Terrace. The two-day journey along the Skeena River is one of the great Canadian rail trips; book a seat on the south side of the train for the river views.
By road. Highway 16 (the Yellowhead) is the main approach — from Prince Rupert (140 km west) or from Smithers and the interior (eastbound). Highway 37 runs north to the Yukon and Alaska Highway, and south to Kitimat. There's no direct road link to Vancouver; the drive is around 1,500 km via the interior.
