Swallowtail Lighthouse is the island's classic first sight, standing on a narrow headland near North Head where ferry passengers see it before they land. The light was first lit in 1860, and the short walk out gives broad views over the Bay of Fundy, fishing boats, seabirds, and the harbour approach. It is easy, dramatic, and still connected to island life rather than preserved as an empty relic.
