The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is New Brunswick's provincial art gallery and one of Canada's better regional collections. Lord Beaverbrook founded it in 1959 and stocked it with work from his personal collection, including significant pieces of British and Canadian art. The British holdings are particularly strong, with paintings by Turner, Constable, Gainsborough, and Reynolds alongside more modern British work.
The Canadian collection covers the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, with several excellent examples. The gallery has expanded since Beaverbrook's day and now has a modern wing alongside the original riverside building. Entry is reasonably priced, and the gallery's café looking out over the Saint John River is a pleasant spot for lunch. Open year-round except major holidays.
