Summer (June to August) is the most comfortable time to visit Fredericton. Temperatures reach into the mid-20s Celsius, the riverfront trail and green spaces are in full use, and the Historic Garrison District runs its summer programming. The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in September is one of the better music festivals in Atlantic Canada and a good reason to extend a visit into autumn.
October brings spectacular fall foliage to the Saint John River valley. Winters are cold — temperatures regularly drop well below -10°C and the city gets significant snowfall — but Fredericton functions normally through the winter, and the snow gives the Victorian downtown a certain charm. Spring arrives slowly, with mud season in April and May before things warm up properly in June.
