Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick

Second Empire provincial legislature on Queen Street, open for free guided tours

The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick is one of Fredericton's strongest civic buildings, a Second Empire stone legislature completed in 1882 after an earlier assembly building burned down. Its dome, mansard roof, and formal setting on Queen Street give the provincial capital a proper seat of government rather than just another office block.

Free guided tours make it more than an exterior photo stop. Inside, visitors see the legislative chamber, portrait gallery, and the kind of Victorian ceremonial detail that still shapes Canadian provincial politics. It pairs naturally with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and Historic Garrison District, both close enough to visit on the same downtown walk.
