Whale Watching

Several operators run whale-watching tours from the Town Wharf and the adjacent Market Wharf from late June through September, with departures usually at midday and again in the afternoon when tides allow. The Bay of Fundy is a feeding ground for minke and finback whales, with humpbacks occasionally seen further out, plus reliable sightings of harbour porpoises, grey seals, and bald eagles.

Tours typically run three hours on either zodiacs (faster, wetter) or larger covered cruisers (more comfortable, with bathroom and snack bar). Wear more layers than seem necessary — the wind on the bay is sharp even on warm days. Most operators offer a sighting guarantee: if you see no marine mammals you can re-board on a later trip. Book ahead in July and August.
