Water Street

Water Street is the long waterfront thoroughfare and the centre of life in St. Andrews. Lined with timber-framed nineteenth-century buildings — many painted in bright greens, yellows, and reds — it holds most of the town's restaurants, galleries, gift shops, and ice cream parlours, with views straight out to Passamaquoddy Bay along its eastern half.

A slow walk from the Town Wharf at one end to the Blockhouse at the other takes about thirty minutes and covers most of what you came to see. Stop at one of the cafes for a coffee, browse a couple of the better galleries (Granite Town Farms, Sunbury Shores Arts Centre nearby), and admire the survival of so much intact Loyalist-era streetscape. Most shops close earlier outside summer; off-season much of the street is shuttered.
