Pingo Canadian Landmark

Protected Arctic landscape of ice-cored hills just outside Tuktoyaktuk.

The Pingo Canadian Landmark protects a group of ice-cored hills west of Tuktoyaktuk, in a region with one of the world's great concentrations of pingos. From the day-use area and highway pullouts you can see the rounded forms lifting out of the tundra; with a local operator, you can get closer by boat or paddle in season.

Do not walk on the pingos themselves. The permafrost and tundra vegetation are fragile, and Parks Canada limits access to protect the landform.
