Louisbourg Lighthouse

Windy lighthouse point with a coastal trail on the site of Canada's first lighthouse.

The present lighthouse stands on a headland where the French built Canada's first lighthouse in 1734. The tower itself is simple, but the setting is excellent: open Atlantic water, low rock shelves, and a trail that keeps close to the surf. Bring a jacket even on sunny days, because the wind here has no interest in your plans.
