The Bancroft Mineral Museum is the most direct way to understand why this little town became a rockhound stop. Its cases focus on minerals found within about 100 kilometres of Bancroft, including fluorescent specimens and the sodalite, feldspar, marble, and uranium ores that shaped the local mining story.
It is small, but it gives the surrounding landscape a useful key. After a visit, the road cuts and rock shops around town start to look less random.
