Kenora is not a foodie destination but a few places do a respectable job. The Boathouse on the Harbourfront does fish-and-chips with lake walleye when it is in season. Beachhouse Public House on the lake is the cottage-classic patio. Plata Latin Fusion downtown is the most ambitious kitchen in town. For coffee and a bagel, Strangs at the corner of Main and Second has been the local fixture since the 1970s.
Fish at any restaurant means walleye (or pickerel, the local name) — locally caught in season. The shore lunches offered by fishing charters, where the guide cooks your morning catch on a fire on an island shore, are the truest Kenora meal.
