Victoria Park

Eighteen-acre downtown park, the city's festival ground

Eighteen acres of mature shade trees in the middle of downtown, ringed by Richmond, Dufferin and Wellington Streets. Once the parade ground of a British garrison, it became a public park in 1874 and is now the city's festival space — Sunfest world-music in July, Home County folk festival the third weekend of July, Pride in late summer, and the lighting of the Christmas tree in late November.

A bandstand in the centre, a war memorial on the south side, and benches under the oaks. The best place in town for a sandwich at lunchtime.
