Founded in 1878 and one of Canada's larger research universities, with 30,000 students spread across a leafy campus on the north bank of the Thames River. The 1920s collegiate-Gothic centre — University College, the medical building, the original residences — is the part to walk through if you only have an hour. The on-campus McIntosh Gallery shows contemporary Canadian art; the smallish Museum of Ontario Archaeology a short walk north holds excavated finds from the prehistoric Neutral Iroquoian villages that once stood on this site.
