Upper Canada Village is one of the best living-history museums in Ontario. It recreates a rural English Canadian village in 1866, with more than forty historic buildings, working mills, farms, artisan shops, and costumed interpreters who show daily work rather than just describe it.
The village opened in 1961 after the St. Lawrence Seaway project forced the relocation or loss of nearby river communities. Many buildings were moved here from places that would otherwise have disappeared under the new water levels, which gives the site more weight than a simple heritage theme park.
