Arrowhead Provincial Park

Arrowhead Provincial Park is only 8 kilometres north of Huntsville's town centre, making it the most immediately accessible outdoor space from the town. The park centres on Arrowhead Lake, where there is a supervised swimming beach and canoe and kayak rentals throughout summer. Several hiking trails wind through mixed forest — the Stubb's Falls Trail (2.5 km return) is the most popular, following Mayflower Creek to a 40-metre waterfall through cedar forest.

In winter, Arrowhead operates a network of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, plus the famous skating trail through the forest. In summer, the park is quieter than Algonquin and far less crowded — a good choice for families who want an easy swim and a picnic without a two-hour drive. Camping is available May through October.

A story
Arrowhead is one of the few Ontario parks that operate year-round, and in winter it becomes particularly busy for a reason unusual in the province: the park maintains a 1.3-kilometre illuminated skating trail through the forest — a path cleared and flooded among the pines and birches that lets you skate through the trees by lantern light.
