Negro Burial Ground

The Negro Burial Ground marks the former site of Niagara Baptist Church, a congregation founded by Black residents of Niagara-on-the-Lake, including people who had escaped slavery through the Underground Railroad. The church itself is gone, but the cemetery remains.

It is a quiet, modest stop rather than a large monument. Its importance is in the story it preserves: the town was not only colonial streets and military forts, but also a place where freedom seekers built a community.
